During your stay at Raven Ridge, a variety of programs are available to enrich your Purely Appalachian experience. Select from bird and plant identification adventures to canoeing, hiking, and cultural ceremonies, or explore on your own. Trails and vistas are well-marked.

Here is what’s going on now throughout the season at Raven Ridge Campgrounds:

  • Anytime:

    Wild Anything Hike

    The Great Channels of Virginia

  • Current season: Migrating birds, Delphiniums blooming, and Morel Mushrooms
  • May through June: Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, and Flame Azalea
  • Autumn: The leaves will be turning, so come for a spectacular show of nature’s beauty
  • And now through September, a variety of mushrooms will be in season

Owners Charles and Alona Kennedy will teach you about the natural flora and fauna, as well as the history and geology, of this fascinating area. Remnants from the prehistoric era, including fossils and artifacts, have been found on the mountain. Several of the fossils, including a large Arthrophycus tablet—a fossilized impression of annelid castings—have been found in the sandstone at Raven Ridge, and are believed to be over 400 million years old!
